King of Hearts Monitoring

Days test performed: Monday - Friday

Fitting and instruction in the use of a King of Hearts Monitor takes approximately 20 minutes.   You will need to come back to the Cardiogy Testing Unit in a week's time to return the monitor.

A King of Hearts Monitor is a patient activated monitor that is used to evaluate infrequent symptoms such as dizziness, palpitations and chest pain.

Unlike a Holter Monitor, which only records ECGs for 24 hours, the King of Hearts Monitor can bne worn for longer periods of time.  It is able to capture ECG data both before and after you experience symptoms.

The recorder can be slipped into a shirt pocket or worn around the neck like a pendant.  It is then attched to two electrodes that are placed on your chest.  When you feel a symptom, you simply push a single button on the monitor to store the ECG readings.

The monitor can be removed for short periods of time to allow showering and such like.  The electrodes are applied daily by the wearer.

Once you have had symptoms and recorded some ECGs, you will need to transfer the information via telephone to the Cardiology Testing Unit.  Instructions for this will be given at the time of fitting.  The data will be received in the testing unit and printed in the form of an ECG strip.  This information will then be used for diagnosis and follow-up.
