Holter Monitoring

Days test performed:  Monday – Thursday

A Holter monitor takes approximately 20 minutes to be attached.  You will then need to return 24 hours later to have the monitor removed.  Removal usually takes around ten minutes.

A Holter Monitor is a 24 hour ECG recording of your heart.  Five electrodes are applied to your chest and are connected to a small recorder.  The recorder is then placed in a small pouch and hung around your neck.  You will be given a diary and asked to record your activities over the next 24 hours.

Located on the recorder is an event button, which is to be pressed when you experience the symptoms for which you are being investigated.

No preparation for the test is required, however, we suggest wearing a garment that opens at the front (for example a shirt or blouse) and not wearing talcum powder.
